Paper on 14th c. embroidered pillow from Gotland

This paper really made my day:

http://fornvannen.se/pdf/1960talet/1969_192.pdf

It's about a Swedish embroidered pillow from the first half of the 14th century. The close-ups are amazing. The text is in Swedish (too bad!), but luckily, there is an English summary at the end

Louise, thanks for mentioning this. What type of database are you searching? I'd love to see the other textiles from Gotland too

In the article it is stated that scholars are disagreeing to the dating of this pillow. It varies from the 12th to the 17th century. Just read the summary in english at the end.

Yes, I saw that. Unfortunately, I can't read the Swedish text. From the English summary I got the impression that, based on her own research findings, the author tends to date the pillow early, concluding the English summary saying "As a whole, the cushion may be dated to the first half of the 4th century"

I'm no professional archeologist or textile researcher, so I can't judge her conclusions...

You could have just asked us, Isis. We could have given you that article (maybe even with a decent translation) MONTHS ago :-)

Be sure to check into the forum (www.albrechts.se/forum) now and then - we try to post "Swedish textile of the month" there.
