Hello! I'm a hobbyist in medieval literature and cooking, and am trying to get my mind around some knitting and embroidery, both of which I've begun in modern fashion. I hope you don't mind if I begin to lurk--this is fascinating stuff and I'm so glad you've decided to put this on the internet.
Can you give me any introduction to medieval silkwork that I could read to perhaps begin my own project? I'm in love with the pouches and I've been looking at your choices for sources and materials. Is it just silk embroidery on counted linen fabric?
Thanks so much for your time! I'm really enjoying the back-entries:)
Hi miss Rika, thanks for lurking!
I 'lurk' a lot too, and I think lurking/reading blogs is a bit like reading interesting magazines. You don't have to comment, just reading is ok too!
If you like the embroidered purses, I think Wymarc's embroidery page is a good place to start, He wrote some very clear tutorials. You can find it here:

Our own embroidery is silk on counted linen fabric.
Isis, I remember you once talked about a silk hairnet with blue parchment flowers. It would be so nice to wear something like that!
Thanks very much! I can't believe I hadn't come across his page before. Much obliged. I look forward to reading more:)
I don't know how I managed to miss your blog before this - wonderful stuff!
I put up a syndication of it on LiveJournal so I can read it there.
